How this works
A web page can ask your browser which graphics chip it is drawing with. Sites use that to decide whether they can show 3D effects, and it is the answer shown above. Nothing leaves your computer. The page reads the name, shows it to you and forgets it.
The name often looks messy because Chrome and Edge wrap it in extra text about the graphics system underneath. The page tidies that up. The untouched version is in the table as the exact text from your browser.
What the result tells you
- Maker is who made the graphics chip: NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Apple, or a phone chip maker.
- Type says whether it is a separate card or built into the processor. That is worked out from the name, so it is a good guess and not a certainty.
- Graphics interface is the system the browser uses to talk to the chip, such as Direct3D on Windows or Metal on a Mac.
When the answer looks wrong
Four things cause most of the surprises:
- A laptop with two graphics chips usually shows the built-in one, because the browser runs on that.
- Safari says only Apple GPU, whatever chip you have.
- A virtual machine or remote desktop shows software drawing instead of a card.
- Privacy settings and some extensions replace the name with a general one.
There is a page on why the browser shows the wrong card.
Find it on the computer itself
- Windows 10 and 11Task Manager, Device Manager and dxdiag.
- MacAbout This Mac and System Information.
- Linuxlspci, glxinfo and nvidia-smi.
- Phone or tabletWhat Android and iPhone show.

Questions
Is it safe to use?
Yes. It reads the same graphics name that every website can already ask your browser for. Nothing is uploaded and nothing about your computer is stored.
Why does it say Apple GPU?
Safari keeps the exact Apple chip private and reports Apple GPU for every Mac and iPhone. To see the real chip on a Mac, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
Can it show how much video memory I have?
No. Browsers do not let websites read the memory size. Task Manager on Windows shows it in a couple of clicks, and the guide on video memory covers Mac and Linux too.
My laptop has two graphics chips. Can this show both?
It tries. The page asks your browser for its normal chip and then for the stronger one. If they are different, it shows both. Some laptops and browsers will not reveal the second one. If you only see a built-in Intel chip, open Task Manager on Windows, click Performance and look for GPU 1.
It shows Intel but I bought a computer with an NVIDIA card. Why?
Laptops with two graphics chips usually run the browser on the built-in one to save power. The separate card is still there, and Windows uses it for games and heavy programs. The page on the wrong card being detected shows how to check, and how to make Windows use the other one.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Android phones show the chip made by Qualcomm (Adreno) or Arm (Mali), and iPhones show Apple GPU.
